Dashboard

The Dashboard, also called Notification Dashboard, is a standard feature of the course template.

The Dashboard provides an overview of new items, activities and tasks. The Dashboard is not intended for placing materials, but may contain links to new materials and activities.

  • In What’s New, students and instructors can see what new items have been placed on Blackboard, such as announcements, course documentation, grades and contributions to discussions.
  • In To do (for students only), students can find, amongst other things, an overview of the assignments or tests that they need to do.
  • In Needs attention (for instructors only), instructors will see an overview of, for example, Assignments or Tests handed in by students.
  • In Alerts, instructors will see, for example, an overview of students who are late handing in Assignments or Tests.

The Dashboard always contains the following modules for instructors: My Announcements, My Tasks, What’s New, Needs Attention, My Calendar and Alerts.

The Dashboard content can be adjusted via the Add Course Module button.  Here you can add or remove items using the Add/Remove buttons. You can move the various items on the Dashboard by placing the cursor on the name of the item and then dragging it. Note that these settings also determine what your students will see.

Use the Edit Notification Settings button to change your personal settings for notifications.

You can do this for a single course (Edit Individual Course Settings) or for all the courses you teach (Bulk Edit Notification Settings). Note that these settings are personal, and therefore have no effect on the students’ settings or those of your fellow instructors.
