Calculated formula
With this question type, candidates are asked to do calculations. The data provided in the question may vary within a range to be determined by the instructor, so that the correct answer to the question can be slightly different for each candidate.
- Formulate the question and place any variables between square brackets:
. - In the next field, provide the formula that can be used to calculate the correct answer. Take care to use only the name of the variables you placed between square backets in part 1.
.
In order to construct this formula, you can use the mathematical options in the toolbar:
. - Under Options, three possibilities can be specified:
- With Answer Range, you can specify the range for a correct answer. This range (above and below the exact result) may be numerical or be indicated as a percentage. If only the exact answer is allowed, the range should be 0.
- With Partial Credit Range, you can also specify a wider range within which partial credits are allowed.
- With Answer Units, you can specify whether a certain unit (such as sec, Joule or Kwh) needs to be added to the answer and what the partial credit should be if the unit is missing or wrong.
- Click on Next.
On the following page, the variables are defined:
- For each variable, specify the minimum and the maximum value and specify the number of decimal places or the amount of significant figures.
- Specify how many decimals the answer should contain.
- Specify how many answer sets need to be generated. From these sets, a random selection is made for each candidate.
- Specify the required format for the answers (normal or exponential).
- Click on Calculate or on Next.
The answer sets are generated and shown on the next page. If there are excessively difficult or easy answer sets among them, they can be removed. - Formulate the feedback and click on Submit.
